Dr. Schmidt is a veterinarian, animal acupuncturist, herbalist and food therapist. She grew up in Illinois, the daughter of two veterinarians.  Working in her parent's clinic from a very young age, she developed a passion for veterinary medicine and decided to become a veterinarian herself.  In 2008 she received her DVM from the University of Illinois, graduating Summa Cum Laude.  She went on to complete an intensive internship in small animal medicine and surgery in Florida at Coral Springs Animal Hospital from 2008-2009.

After moving to California in 2009, she worked in general practice for 7 years and acquired extensive knowledge in all aspects of veterinary medicine including surgery, internal medicine and ultrasound.  She enjoyed it very much but often felt that something was missing from the medical care she was able to provide.

She began to study holistic medicine and became certified in veterinary acupuncture (CVA) through the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society in 2015.  She quickly became fascinated with the benefits she saw in her patients and began to incorporate other therapies such as herbs, essential oils, food therapy and laser.  She then completed an advanced course in small animal acupuncture through the Chi Institute to refine her knowledge of this ancient healing method.

She decided to open Napa Valley Holistic Veterinary Services in 2016 to bring the benefits of holistic medicine to as many patients as possible, integrating these incredible therapies into their traditional veterinary care.  By providing these services in your home she can decrease stress and increase the benefits of treatment for your pet.

In 2018 Kim became a Certified Veterinary Chinese Herbalist and in 2023 she obtained her Graduate Diploma in Veterinary Western Herbal Medicine through the College of Integrative Veterinary Therapies. She has an extensive knowledge of both Eastern and Western herbal remedies to help naturally heal her patients. She is also a Certified Veterinary Food Therapist. She is an avid learner and is always exploring new modalities for her patients.

Kim and her husband Malcolm own and operate a 2 acre farm in Napa, CA where they grow organic produce.  They live a very healthy life with their 2 children, making organic meals from fresh produce and eggs from the farm.  Acupuncture, herbs and essential oils are a part of their daily lifestyle.   They also have numerous animal family members, including 2 dogs, 1 cats, 1 fish, 1 rabbit, 3 ducks, 14 chickens and 1 horse.
