At Napa Valley Holistic Veterinary Services we offer acupuncture services for dogs and cats in the comfort of their own home.  This creates a relaxing experience that helps to improve overall wellness and manage pain.

Acupuncture is based in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM). This is an ancient form of medicine including acupuncture, herbal medicine, food therapy and massage.  TCVM teaches that disease stems from an imbalance in the body.  During an acupuncture treatment tiny needles are inserted into specific points in the skin.  Stimulation of these points alters the flow of energy (Qi-'chee') around the body, helping to restore balance and allow the body to heal itself.

There is now a growing body of research which supports acupuncture as a modality for treating numerous medical conditions in both humans and animals.

Just a few of the many conditions managed with acupuncture include :

Arthritis/Pain, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Autoimmune Disease, Cancer, Allergies, Eye Problems, Cough, Skin Problems, Intervertebral Disc Disease, Hindend Weakness, Anxiety, Insomnia

Dr. Schmidt is certified in veterinary acupuncture through the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS), and has taken advanced small animal acupuncture through the Chi Institute.  These are two of the largest veterinary acupuncture training programs in the country.  She has received extensive training in both dry needle and electroacupuncture therapy (sending a mild electric current through acupuncture needles to create more stimulation and pain relief).   She also incorporates cold laser acupuncture for needle sensitive patients!
